Aotearoa in 1830. Lay preacher Thomas Munro (Guy Pearce) is sent to the British settler town of 'Epworth' to ensure the salvation of the inhabitants. When he gets caught between the fronts of two hostile Māori tribes, his faith is put to the test. Soon he finds himself there next to Rangimai (Tioreore Ngatai-Melbourne) in the middle of a bloody war...
