Gott existiert. Er lebt in Brüssel. Doch das ist leider nur die eine Seite der Medaille. Denn der Allmächtige (Benoît Poelvoorde) ist kein weiser Weltenlenker, sondern ein Familienvater, der frustriert im Bademantel durch die Wohnung schlurft und Frau (Yolande Moreau) und Tochter Éa (Pili Groyne) tyrannisiert. Ansonsten hockt Gott vor seinem Computer und tüftelt mit diebischer Freude jene dummen, sadistischen Gebote aus, die zu den Fragen führen, die die Menschheit bewegen: Warum fällt der Toast immer auf die Marmeladenseite, und weshalb erwischt man im Supermarkt grundsätzlich die langsamste Schlange an der Kasse? Als wäre das nicht schon schlimm genug, lässt er immer wieder Dampf ab, indem er Naturkatastrophen oder Kriege arrangiert. Irgendwann hat Éa die Nase voll. Höchste Zeit für eine Lektion, findet sie, und hackt sich in Gottes Computer ein. Die geheimste seiner geheimen Dateien, die Todesdaten aller Menschen, ist schnell geöffnet. Und dann dauert es nur noch ein paar Klicks, bis jeder Mensch auf Erden per SMS erfährt, wie lange er noch zu leben hat. Diese schockierende Botschaft nehmen manche besser auf als andere. Éa bricht fluchtartig auf, um auf der Erde sechs neue Apostel zu suchen, um ein brandneues Testament zu schreiben. Plötzlich denken alle Menschen darüber nach, was sie mit der ihnen verbleibenden Zeit anfangen wollen. Doch Gott ist der Meinung, dass er inmitten des ganzen Chaos auch noch ein gewaltiges Wort mitzureden hat.

Because the Almighty (Benoît Poelvoorde) is not a wise world leader, but a family man who shuffles through the apartment in frustration in a bathrobe and tyrannizes his wife (Yolande Moreau) and daughter Éa (Pili Groyne). Otherwise, God sits in front of his computer and works out with thieving joy those stupid, sadistic commandments that lead to the questions that move humanity: Why does the toast always fall on the jam side, and why do you always catch the slowest queue at the checkout in the supermarket? As if that wasn't bad enough, he keeps letting off steam by arranging natural disasters or wars. At some point, Éa has had enough. It's high time for a lesson, she thinks, and hacks into God's computer. The most secret of his secret files, the death data of all people, is quickly opened. And then it only takes a few clicks until every person on earth learns by SMS how long he has left to live. Some take this shocking message better than others. Éa sets off in a hurry to search for six new apostles on earth in order to write a brand new testament. Suddenly, all people are thinking about what they want to do with the time they have left. But God thinks that in the midst of all the chaos he also has a huge word to say.
