Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) kommandiert aus ihrer Einsatz-Zentrale eine Drohnen-Operation in Nairobi. Das Ziel ist es, Terroristen aufzuspüren. Steve Watts (Aaron Paul aus 'Breaking Bad'), der zuständige Pilot, lenkt die Drohne per Fernsteuerung an das gewünschte Ziel. Als sie Mitglieder einer terroristischen Vereinigung entdecken, sind diese gerade mitten in der Vorbereitung eines Selbstmordanschlags in der kenianischen Hauptstadt. Der nun folgende Befehl ist klar: Die Terroristen sollen umgehend ausgeschaltet werden. Doch gerade als Drohnenpilot Watts das Haus, in dem sich die Attentäter befinden, bombardieren will, betritt ein Mädchen die Todesszone. Watts ist unsicher, ob er trotzdem feuern soll. Eine Frage, die auch seine Vorgesetzten nicht beantworten wollen. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit entwickelt sich diese schwierige Entscheidung zu einer politischen Zwickmühle bis in die höchsten politischen Ränge.
Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) commands a drone operation in Nairobi from her operations center. The goal is to track down terrorists. Steve Watts (Aaron Paul from 'Breaking Bad'), the pilot in charge, steers the drone to the desired destination by remote control. When they discover members of a terrorist organization, they are in the middle of preparing a suicide attack in the Kenyan capital. The order that follows is clear: the terrorists are to be eliminated immediately. But just as drone pilot Watts is about to bomb the house where the attackers are located, a girl enters the death zone. Watts is unsure whether he should fire anyway. A question that even his superiors do not want to answer. Within a very short time, this difficult decision develops into a political dilemma up to the highest political ranks.
